Audrey Mulama is the founder of KECBO, a community-based organisation registered in Kenya and actively operating in Kakamega county whose purpose is to contribute to safe mining and mineral processing practices for artisanal and small-scale Gold Miners and also environmental protection to communities residing within mining thresholds. KECBO is an environmentally focused organisation. It has successfully received support from SEIC Strathmore Extractives Industry Centre, KIPYA AFRICA, Extractives Baraza, Base titanium-Kenya, Ministry of petroleum and Mining State Department of Mining and Netfund State Corporation under the UNDP FLARAK project. The organisation is rooted in scientific-technological approaches for feasible solutions to the commonly used mercury process adapted by artisanal miners and its focus is on rehabilitation degraded landscapes as well as mercury-contaminated mine sites.
